The Yaber T2 Plus is an attractive entry in the world of portable projectors, designed for casual home entertainment. The T2 Plus is slightly more expensive than the T2 as it includes a Google TV dongle. If you’ve already had a streaming stick or other device, the T2 sometimes goes on sale as low as $200. The projector has a mix of strengths and limitations that make it suitable for some users while falling short for others.

DisclosureWe received the projector as a courtesy for review purposes. However, the review is intended to provide honest, unbiased insights about the product, based on personal experiences and observations.

Design and Build

The T2 Plus sports a cream-colored, retro aesthetic with gold accents and a fabric-covered speaker grille. Its solid plastic build feels reliable, while the rotating handle doubles as a stand, allowing for convenient adjustments to projection height. However, at 5.5 pounds and dimensions of 11.4 by 5.5 by 6.5 inches, the T2 Plus is bulkier than many competitors, limiting its portability.

A thoughtful touch is the inclusion of a lens cap. On the connectivity front, the T2 Plus offers ample options, including an HDMI port, USB, 3.5mm audio output, and even an Ethernet port.

Setting up the T2 is easy. Automatic keystone correction and autofocus simplify initial alignment. However, the auto-keystone feature doesn’t work when the projector is angled using the handle, a design oversight that could have been avoided with better sensor placement. Besides, the T2 features 4P keystone correction which is very helpful in projecting to a perfect rectangle on the screen.

The built-in battery offers up to 2.5 hours of use, though real-world performance may vary depending on brightness settings. During testing, the battery lasted through a 90-minute movie with some charge to spare. For longer viewing sessions, plugging in the projector is a necessity, particularly if you want to maximize brightness.

Equipped with dual 8-watt JBL speakers and Dolby Audio support, the T2 Plus delivers impressive sound quality for its size. The speakers provide enough volume to fill a family room, and the sound remains clear without distortion at higher levels.

Display Quality

The Yaber T2 Plus boasts a native resolution of 1080p and a brightness rating of 450 ANSI lumens. The limited brightness makes it unsuitable for daytime or high-ambient-light settings. This is consistent with its classification as a night-time projector.

The picture is underwhelming, with poor shadow detail and overly dark mid-tones. I tried to adjust the brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color saturation but colors remain slightly faded and biased towards yellow. The overall image quality is just sufficient for casual use. It is disappointing as compared to other 1080p projectors in the price range.

I did not enjoy using the projector for movies but I love using it for digital holiday decorations. The picture quality is decent for this purpose and I don’t need to connect it to an external speaker because the built-in speaker is quite capable. The autofocus and keystone correction come extremely helpful in this case as I don’t have a screen to project to. I just needed to press a button and the picture looks great on my pumpkins.

Final Verdict

Pros

  • Stylish retro aesthetic with handle
  • High-quality JBL speakers
  • Autofocus and keystone correction

Cons

  • Below average picture quality

The Yaber T2 Plus is an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers seeking a projector with a built-in battery and decent audio quality. However, I don’t recommend this projector if picture quality is your priority. There are a lot of better projectors in the $200 price range but they don’t have a built-in battery. If you can buy it for less than $200, it is a decent product for digital decorations for Halloween or Christmas.
